InMage Introduces New Version of Backup and Disaster Recovery Software in V5.5 Release
-Enhancements include capacity optimization features and increased application and platform support -
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – November 15, 2010 – InMage® (www.inmage.com) today announced version 5.5 of its flagship InMage Scout backup and disaster recovery software. The latest release includes new capacity optimization features, simple deployment, ease of use and monitoring as well as increased application, platform and language support. InMage now supports Exchange 2010, SharePoint 2010, BES 5.01 and MySQL 5.1 applications, as well as vSphere 4.x, Windows 2008 R2, RHEL 5.4/5.5, OEL 5.5, XenServer 5.5u2, 5.6, and OpenSolaris 5.11 platforms. Supported languages include Chinese, German and French.
“Management complexity and efficiency continue to be key problem areas for companies as they work to build out their data protection strategies,” said Senior Analyst Henry Baltazar of The 451 Group. “The latest advances InMage has introduced in its new vContinuum product and the latest Scout 5.5 update enhance storage efficiency while streamlining management and deployment processes.”
InMage Scout 5.5’s new capacity optimization features enable customers to match or exceed traditional target deduplication efficiencies, while shortening recovery time and recovery point objectives, keeping data loss to near zero, and providing instantaneous and granular restores. The sparse retention feature retains fewer application consistent recovery points for older data, while thin provisioning only backs up used storage capacity. Repository compression further compresses all of the backed up data, creating an average 5x reduction in capacity requirements when compared to traditional continuous data protection (CDP) technology. InMage compares favorably with deduplication approaches without any of the downsides associated with legacy scheduled backup architectures. It also offers outstanding recovery performance, with mail and mailbox-level recovery for Exchange, built-in log management for applications, and significantly faster virtual snapshots for archival to tape, offloading reporting and development and test environments (over 200% faster on average).
“Before we upgraded our IT infrastructure, we didn’t have a comprehensive disaster recovery technology in place," said Ian Steele, director of IT for the Tampa Bay Lightning. "We were backing up to tape, which took hours to restore, or rebuilding servers if they went down. InMage replicates our entire VMware environment both locally and remotely, ensuring backup and recovery of our data and most critical applications, Microsoft Exchange and SQL. Additionally, InMage has an outstanding feature set that optimizes storage utilization for backup and recovery. We’ve been very pleased with the level of protection InMage provides for our virtual machines, which in turn support our key business processes.”
To simplify deployments, all InMage functionality is deployed, managed centrally from a single, web browser-based management console. Application-aware wizards accelerate the setup process, and application consistency is enforced at regular intervals. With pricing reductions of up to 60% over previous versions, InMage Scout 5.5 presents an extremely affordable and compelling next generation alternative to traditional backup solutions. Customers can seamlessly add on best in class remote replication and application failover functions.
InMage Scout 5.5 is immediately available.
